Three-Stack Hyperbola

Three-Stack Hyperbola extends the Deployable Hyperbola into a vertical assembly of three connected modules. Each hyperboloid changes shape as its framework expands and contracts, while a pink knitted membrane stretches across the shifting geometry.

The knit is oriented to follow the twist of each hyperboloid. Its pattern makes the direction of movement visible and gives the three modules a continuous surface. Stacking them tests how the movement and material behavior of a single deployable unit might operate across a taller structure.

The project builds on research published as “Customized Knit Membrane Deployable Hyperboloid Tower” in the CDRF 2023 proceedings. That paper examines the design and fabrication of the original single-module structure and its knitted membrane.
