Bicone
Bicone explores how a knitted membrane can connect a flexible ring and a rigid dowel to create a structure that flips between configurations. A PETG pipe forms the curved boundary, while the dowel holds opposing points apart. The textile stretches between these elements, establishing a balance between membrane tension and the bending resistance of the pipe.
When pressed and released, the assembly deforms and flips, changing the orientation of its curved surfaces. The knit accommodates this movement while helping hold the framework together. Green and white stripes make the deformation visible as they spread, converge, and change direction across the surface.
The project investigates flipping as a behavior produced through the interaction of geometry, flexibility, and tension. Its form and movement develop together, demonstrating how a small number of structural elements and a knitted membrane can create a responsive spatial object.
