Continuous Curls

Continuous Curl extends the bending and knitted membrane studies into a more fluid geometry. Pink and white stripes trace a surface that loops around itself, rising, folding, and curling into a series of changing openings. From one viewpoint the form appears compact; from another, its layered curves reveal a deeper interior.

The project explores how a continuous edge can guide a knitted surface into a complex three-dimensional form. As the boundary bends, the textile stretches between nearby portions of the curve. The stripes make this transformation legible: parallel bands spread apart, draw together, and seem to reverse direction as they pass around each fold.

The resulting form has a Möbius-like visual quality, with its edge drawing the eye from outside to inside and back again. The reference describes how the piece is experienced; it does not require the textile to be a mathematically exact Möbius strip. As in Curling Symmetries, form emerges through the relationship between the knitted material and its boundary, but here the emphasis shifts toward continuity, layered curvature, and the changing perception of the surface.
